Learn more at OceanPowerTechnologies.com.The RoleWe are seeking a Field Service Representative who is passionate about the ocean and looking to have an impact on how people understand and explore this critical habitat. Your mechanical aptitude and boating experience will be key to your success in this role. This role is customer-facing, requiring strong technical expertise, professional communication, and a proactive problem-solving mindset. You will work closely with customers, engineers, and field operators, ensuring seamless deployments, technical support, and hands-on operation of WAM-V ASVs and OPTs PowerBuoys.ResponsibilitiesUnder the direction of the field operations manager, you will be a key member of the RaaS (Robotics as a Service) team. You will also assist in prototyping and testing of uncrewed systems. You will work closely with the engineering team. In addition, you may also be called upon to support the offshore installation and recovery of OPTs PowerBuoys. Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:Perform crewed and uncrewed vessel operation and maintenance in domestic and international locationsAs needed, provide quayside and offshore support for PowerBuoy deployment preparations, deployment and recovery.Ensure the entire RaaS fleet is properly maintained, serviced, and ready for deploymentGlobal remote or in-person customer supportBuild and test mechanical assemblies from both detailed (production) drawings as well as back-of-the-envelope (prototype) drawingsPrepare as-built drawings, packing lists, and QC-related documentationPerform QC on third-party and in-house components and assembliesFollow operational and manufacturing best practices for the marine environment and robotics systemsDesign, set up, and maintain dedicated workstations, manufacturing jigs, and toolsRequired QualificationsBoating experience, preferably to include a minimum of 2 years working on boats on the ocean, primarily near coastal areas with familiarity operating small boats, docking, trailering, boat maintenance, and safetyWillingness to study for and obtain a California boating license, if you don’t already have oneApproximately 3 years of hands-on experience with mechanical and low voltage systemsProficiency with small hand and power toolsFamiliarity with mechanical and electrical assemblies on a boatKnowledge of best practices in boat maintenance (such as marine corrosion)Ability to work with minimal direction while knowing when to ask for input or helpPositive and hardworking attitude; ability to function well with a team and remain calm under pressureValid US passportValid US Driver’s LicenseAbility to attain U.S. security clearance if requiredDesired QualificationsExperience on back deck of offshore construction vesselsElectrical and electromechanical assembly build-out and testingExperience with machine tools (mill, lathe, etc.)Experience TIG or MIG welding aluminum and steelBachelor’s or Associate’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, marine engineering, or a related fieldEqual Opportunity StatementOcean Power Technologies provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, creed, ancestry, national origin, citizenship, sex or gender (including pregnancy, childbirth, and pregnancy-related conditions), gender identity or expression (including transgender status), sexual orientation, marital status, religion, age, disability, genetic information, service in the military, or any other characteristic protected by applicable federal, state, or local laws and ordinances.
