Responsible for performing routine maintenance, component, and system repair, maintaining production standards, and daily inspections and minimal reworks, all with little or no supervision. Responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of transportation services for Transit Management of Canyon County (TMCC).Major Responsibilities:Perform vehicle preventative maintenance to TMCC, Valley Regional Transit (VRT), and Department of Transportation (DOT) standardsReassemble, clean, and reinstall components as assignedMaintain a safe, clean, teamwork areaAssist other technicians and/or mechanics, and mechanic helpers as requested in all areas of mechanical repairMove vehicles safely between job and work areaUses power and hand-held mechanic’s toolsCommunicate professionally with customers, supervisors, team members, and clientAssist in procurement of partsExpert ability and knowledge of diagnostic equipmentInspect, diagnose, and accurately perform all phases of vehicle and equipment repairRemove, clean, repair, reinstall, and adjust vehicle components including but not limited to engine emission components, driveline components, transmission electrical/electronic components, HVAC, brakes, suspension, steering, exhaust, cab/chassis, hydraulics, ADA equipment, tires and other vehicle accessoriesEnsure work orders are completed accurately and in a safe and timely mannerEvaluate completed work prior to release and seek supervisor approval as requiredEnsure safe use of power and hand-held toolsOperate a fork lift, vehicle lifts, drill press, etc. Perform road calls, on the road testing, and emergency services as necessaryActively participate in safety or educational training as requiredPerformance may be measured by the degree to which all equipment and property is functioning in a safe and efficient mannerPerformance may be measured by the maintenance of a safe and clean work environment and by the maintenance of accurate and up-to-date records of all maintenance-related activitiesOther duties as assignedLevel of decision-making:Determine how to prioritize tasksDevelop efficient preventative maintenance techniquesMinimum Education and Certifications Required:High School diploma or equivalentTwo years of driving experience preferredAutomotive/Diesel/CNG technical or vocational training preferred or equivalent work experience 608 and 609 Refrigerant CertificationDemonstrated experience monitoring and meeting heavy diesel and CNG preventive maintenance schedules and operations of any automotive, diesel, or CNG repair shop equipmentTransit ASE Certification preferred (H2 Diesel Engines, H3 Drive Train, H4 Brakes, H5 Suspension and Steering, H6 Electrical – Electronic Systems, H7 – Heating, Ventilation and A/C)Cummins ISL-G, L9 CNG engines as well as Automotive Must have all associated tools up to one inch including wrenches and socketsMust obtain and maintain a valid Idaho Commercial Driver’s License with required endorsementsMust pass pre-employment physical, driving record review, criminal background review, and drug and alcohol pre-employment testAbility to communicate in writing and verballyAbility to input data efficiently in maintenance related softwareExperience and Skills Required:5+ years hands-on maintenance experience or vocational trainingAbility to work with other technicians/mechanics, and mechanic helpers in a team environment Ability to work under time constraints and deadlinesAbility to read and understand service manuals, vehicle schematics (electrical, air, fuel) as well as the ability to use diagnostic equipmentGood computer skillsDemonstrated ability to communicate clearly with co-workers and managementAbility to follow written and oral instructions with minimal supervisionAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and management Ability to work flexible and varied work schedules including late night, early morning, weekends, snow days, and holidaysPhysical Requirements and Working Conditions:Maintenance shop environmentAbility to lift 65 poundsUse of full ranges of hearing, speech, and visionUse of fingers (manual dexterity) handling paperworkStoop, crouch, squat or kneel when performing duties of any typeBend at knee, hip, waist when performing dutiesStand while performing duties of any typeBe subject to wet, cold, or hot environmental conditionsWrite reports in a coherent, legible wayMust be able to move about the transit facility; utilize standard office equipment; access filing system/cabinets; and communicate effectively and efficiently in person or by telephone.
